dans (in)

Le chat est dans le panier. (The cat is in the basket.)

derrière (behind)

Le chat est derrière le fauteuil. (The cat is behind the armchair.)

devant (in front of)

Le chat est devant le fauteuil. (The cat is in front of the armchair.)

à côté de / à droite de (next to / on the right of)

Le chat est à côté de la plante. Il est à droite de la plante. (The cat is next to the plant. It is on the right of the plant.)

à côté de / à gauche de (next to / on the left of)

Le chat est à côté de la plante. Il est à gauche de la plante.(The cat is next to the plant. It is on the left of the plant.)

sous (under)

Le chat est sous la table. (The cat is under the table.)

sur (on)

Le chat est sur le fauteuil. (The cat is on the armchair.)
