There is – are / there is – are no

« Il y a » indicates the presence or existence of a thing in a specific place.

« Il n'y a pas de » indicates the absence of something in a specific place.

• Il y a un ordinateur et des fleurs sur la table. (There is a computer and flowers on the table.)

• Il n'y a pas de téléphone. (There is no telephone.)

• Il y a beaucoup de voitures sur la route ! (There are a lot of cars on the road!)

• Il y a un citron dans le frigo. (There is a lemon in the fridge.)
