With a verb of movement, we use the expression “en ……” or “à ……” to specify the means of transport:

• en voiture (by car)
• en bus (by bus)
• en avion (by plane)
• en train (by train)
• en métro (by metro)
• en bateau (by boat)

• à pied (on foot)
• à vélo (by bike)
• à cheval (on horse back)

Vous voyagez en bateau ? (Are you travelling by boat?)

Je rentre à la maison à pied. (I’m going home on foot.)

Martine circule beaucoup en voiture pour son travail. (Martine travels a lot by car for her job.)
