With a verb of movement, we use the expression “en ……” or “à ……” to specify the means of transport:

• en bus ( by bus)
• en avion ( by plane)
• en train ( by train)
• en métro ( by metro)
• en bateau ( by boat)

• à pied (on foot)
• à vélo ( by bike)
• à cheval ( on horse back)

Vous voyagez en bateau ? Are you travelling by boat?

Je rentre à la maison à pied. I’m going home on foot.

Martine circule beaucoup en voiture pour son travail. Martine travels a lot by car for her job.
