To say the date we use the following format: ”day – month – year” or “DD/MM/YY”

- Tuesday 24 August 2021
To read the date, we say:
- Mercredi 17 février 2021 : « mercredi dix-sept février deux mille vingt-et-un »
- Wednesday 17 February 2021 “Wednesday seventeen February two thousand twenty one”
- Vendredi 1er juillet 2022 : « vendredi premier juillet deux vingt-deux »
- Friday first July 2022 : “Friday first July two thousand twenty-two”
- dimanche 21 mai 2023 : « dimanche vingt-et-un mai deux mille vingt-trois »
- Sunday 21 May 2023 : “Sunday twenty-one May two thousand twenty-three”
Note 1
There are two ways to say the years before year 2000
- 1952 : mille neuf cent cinquante-deux ou dix-neuf cent cinquante-deux.
- 1952 : “thousand nine hundred fifty-two” or “nineteen hundred fifty-two”
- 1835 : mille huit cent trente-cinq ou dix-huit cent trente-cinq.
- 1835 : “thousand eight hundred thirty-five” or “eighteen hundred thirty-five”
Note 2
To know what the date is, you say:
- Quel jour sommes-nous ?
- What day are we? (what’s the date ?)
And you’d answer:
- Nous sommes le 7 décembre 2021
- We are the seven December 2021 (it is the 7th December 2021)
