Introduction
Qu'est-ce que tu veux faire plus tard, Paul ? Paul, what do you want to do when you’re older?
Je veux être astronaute !
I want to be an astronaut.
Use
« vouloir » = = “desire / wish / demand … ”
- Tu veux un café ?
- Do you want a cup of coffee?
- Je veux manger un sandwich.
- I want to eat a sandwich.
Examples
Le directeur veut organiser une réunion demain matin. The manager wants to organise a meeting tomorrow morning.
Mes enfants veulent une console de jeux vidéo pour Noël. My children want a video game console for Christmas.
Voulez-vous boire quelque chose ? Do you want something to drink?

Remarque
To ask for something politely, in a shop for example, don’t say “je veux…” (I want..)
Say : « je voudrais… » (I would like …)
Je veux trois places pour le film de 20h - - → Je voudrais trois places pour le film de 20h, s'il vous plaît.
I want three tickets for the 8 o’clock movie - - → I would like three tickets for the 8 o’clock movie please.
